The predilection I hold towards management finds its roots back in the eleventh grade when I opted to study Science with Economics. Before I knew it, I started looking forward to the Economics class, where I fathomed concepts such as investments and banking, and the business needs of an organization. Around this time, I was also overpowered by something a little off the wall; digging the internet to unearth the net worth of people from all walks of life. After several such days dawned the dramatic night, where I stumbled upon the concept of investment banking and realized that there are specialized professionals to create capital for other companies, governments, and people. Moreover, I was gradually introduced to the intricate world of the working of the central banking system. Over the years, I have found this domain to be both exciting and demanding, and traversing through its roots became exhilarating with each passing day.
Progressively, I started discovering my technical acumen and after the conclusion of my senior secondary examination, enrolled myself in the Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering course. This decision was built on my drive to accumulate a better understanding of the technical aspects of a commodity. The course acquainted me with manufacturing processes, functions of internal combustion engines and the concepts of refrigeration, among several others, solidifying my interest for the subject. However, the most captivating experience was to study Economics and Management in the seventh semester, learning about the concepts of utility, different types of goods, and organizational hierarchies was a portal to catapult my flair for the subject.
A narrative of my journey will remain incomplete without the mention of the Go Kart Design Challenge which transpired between May 2016 to January 2017. While designing and racing a Go-Kart vehicle was a rigorously challenging test of my engineering abilities, my most significant takeaway was being a part of the business team. As a part of the group, I conducted the manufacturing cost analysis of the vehicle, developed product sales strategy and market-to-sell analysis. My team and I also delivered a coherent presentation about the vehicle in the business presentation round and clinched the seventh position, outshining 278 teams from across the nation.
As one learning led to the other, I bagged the learning opportunity at Piltover Technologies, Jaipur, between September 2016 to January 2017. The company produces medical products such as dental products and prosthetic hands through 3D printing. As a Competition Analyst here, I donned several hats and went through the highs and lows of working in a startup environment. I was entrusted with the responsibility of focusing on different divisions of our competitors, their marketing strategies and exploring the areas of research and development.
During my summer training at Nitol Niloy Group in Dhaka between May 2016- July 2016, while laboring on consumer durables and automotive manufacturing, I received a chance to comprehend the nitty-gritty of the business process of the organization. I realized how from the unpacking of a complete knockdown unit to the assembly of the final product, i.e different components are put on them, and the main assembly and various parts are assembled in different stations. I also had the opportunity to learn the different sections of the Sales and Marketing division of HMCL Niloy Bangladesh Limited, a joint venture of Hero Moto Corp Ltd, India, and Nitol Niloy Group, Bangladesh. Networking department, spare parts department, the different policies and requirements for dealers to acquire showroom and spare part contracts are some of the fields which enhanced my practical exposure.
The six months between January 2018-June 2018 saw me working at Kennametal India in Bengaluru, which was an amalgamation of my technical expertise, managerial skills, strategic, and logical approach. My project was focused upon Reduction of Setup Time in the Milling Machine where I analyzed different models produced by the manufacturing machines. Working in this cutting tools and machine tools manufacturing industry necessitated me to hatch solutions to reduce the pressure on the operator and enhance the work efficiency by carrying out the exercise by the first principle of problem analysis. Seeing my pioneering solutions being implemented has motivated me to rely on my strategic and logical capabilities in any organization that I am employed in, in the coming years.
I have augmented my managerial and organizational intellect while heading the Sponsorship team during my college’s cultural fest Oneiros in 2016. Captaining a group of 24 people, I befriended concepts such as product marketing, marketing budgets and how decision making differs on the store level, regional level and on the national level. Moreover, participation in Model United Nations (MUNs) for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016 have refined my rhetorical skills and have made me more receptive of others’ perspectives, an ability which will assist me while working in a business firm. Other significant chapters have been my participation in NACAO, a business plan competition, conducted by the Entrepreneurship Cell of the college. The latter competition revolved around development and presentation of a business plan. Furthermore, registering my presence during a workshop on Investor Awareness delivered by the senior executive team from esteemed Indian financial institutions such as the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Board of India has added to my reservoir of learning.
My undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering has capacitated me not to confine myself to any one field but instead, test my mettle in any domain which is engineering, non-engineering or process industry, etc. All the minor and major endeavors have widened the horizon of my learning and armed me with analytical skills, strategic thinking, teamwork and communication skills. In college, I enjoyed the work I orchestrated in marketing and sales and hailing from a technical background and having managerial skills will put me in a better position than my counterparts in any organization that I am a part of.

At this point, I feel compelled to acknowledge how I find myself going back to Rob Siltanen’s impactful quote, “Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” I want to be one such ‘crazy genius’.
