Australia has increased the cost of international student visas, doubling the fee from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600 as of July 1, 2024. The significant hike has raised concerns, especially among Indian students planning to study in Australia, a top destination for higher education.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh confirmed the development in a written response to a Rajya Sabha query. He stated that the fee hike could impose financial challenges on students from India and other countries. Singh added that the Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the issue with the Australian government, emphasizing the importance of India-Australia educational partnerships, which are integral to bilateral ties.
