Where do I send the forms to open the account?
Once you have completed the forms and they have been authenticated by the embassy, please send them (in original) to:
Deutsche Bank Privat und Geschaeftskunden AG
Service Center Hamburg / Auslaendische Studenten
Alter Wall 53
Deutschland/Germany
How long will it take to open the account?
It normally takes a week for an account to be opened. As we receive a high number of applications shortly before the start of university term in Germany, the process may take longer at these times.
How will I receive the account number?
Once the account has been opened, you will receive the account details by email. These consist of the account number, sort code for payments within Germany, International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and Bank ID Code (BIC) for payments made from abroad.
When will I receive confirmation of receipt of funds?
When the full blocking deposit has been credited to the account, you and the German embassy will automatically receive confirmation by email. Before that point, we do not send out any information about your account balance, and, for reasons of security and banking secrecy, we do not answer any questions about account activity.
I have already received confirmation from you and now the embassy suddenly wishes to have a different amount blocked. What do I have to do?
If the German Embassy wishes to have a different amount blocked, please send us a new supplementary form with the new details. On this form, you do not need to have your signature authenticated again by the German Embassy. Please send the supplementary form (in original) to:
Deutsche Bank Privat und Geschaeftskunden AG
Service Center Hamburg / Auslaendische Studenten
Alter Wall 53
20457 Hamburg
Deutschland/Germany
Please note: to have a new, larger amount blocked, you must have the necessary balance available in your account. If necessary, you must therefore instruct a transfer of the required amount.
How will the embassy or consulate receive confirmation of the blocked account?
When the full blocking deposit has been credited to your account, the German Embassy or German Consulate will, along with you, automatically receive confirmation by email.
Can I send forms that have not been authenticated?
As authentication by the German Embassy confirms your legitimacy, it is absolutely necessary that we only receive authenticated forms from you.
Can I send faxes or scanned copies of the forms?
Due to legal regulations, we can only accept forms in original.
Can my brother open the account for me?
Due to legal regulations, accounts at any bank in Germany may only be opened by the account holder. Accounts may not be opened by third parties.
What do I have to do when I arrive in Germany?
Once you have arrived in Germany, we ask that you visit us at one of the Deutsche Bank Investment & Finance Centers, where a member of staff will assist you in completing the service order. This service order informs us of your address in Germany and allows you to order a card to be used at cash machines and for cashless payments. If you wish, you can also set up online banking. Please bring your passport with you.
Please note that without this service order and the accompanying authentication your account will remain blocked! This means that previously entered transfers or direct debits will not be executed.

How much do account management services cost?
Account management services for your blocked account in Germany are free.
You can find details of charges for additional services not included in the Junges Konto package in the current List of Prices and Services.
Do I need a second account that is not blocked?
It is not necessary to open another account. Within the monthly allowance, you can make use of all the services available for a normal current account.
Will I receive an EC card or a credit card?
Only a Deutsche Bank Junges Konto card is allowed for a blocked account.
My EC card has been blocked. Why?
EC cards are not allowed to be issued for blocked accounts for foreign students. Therefore your Deutsche Bank card has been blocked and a new Deutsche Bank Junges Konto Card has been ordered for you.
Specific amounts are already printed on the supplementary form. My embassy requires different amounts. What should I do?
The amounts printed on the supplementary form are the most common standard amounts. If the German Embassy requires different amounts, please write these in the empty fields next to the printed amounts.
What does basic amount mean?
The basic amount is the amount that remains blocked in your account after the months use until the account release is approved by the German Embassy or the immigration office.
Why does the blocked account cost 50?
This is the fee that covers setting up the account and extending the block whenever necessary, including providing confirmation to the German Embassy abroad and the immigration office in your current place of residence in Germany. You agreed to this fee when signing the supplementary form.
Do I need to pay in the 50 separately?
When your full blocking deposit is credited, we debit the agreed service charge of 50.
In order to have the full monthly sum at your disposal from the beginning, we recommend that you also transfer this additional 50 to cover the service charge.
I still do not know where I will be studying. What should I put under “university/language school”?
If you have not yet been accepted to a university or do not yet know where you wish to study, you may leave this field empty.
However, if you do know the name of the university and provide us with this information, we will open the account at the Deutsche Bank Investment & Finance Center nearest to the university.
Do I have to provide the admission letter from the university?
This is not necessary. However, if you do provide it, we will open the account at the Deutsche Bank Investment & Finance Center nearest to the university.

The monthly allowance will always be made available from the first day of the month.
My transfer/direct debit was not carried out. Why not?
It is possible that your account did not contain sufficient funds to cover the transfer or direct debit.
Please check your account statements to determine how much of the monthly allowance has already been used up by previous transactions.
The monthly allowance will always be made available from the first day of the month.
What should I do if I need more money than is made available to me each month?
If you have already used up the allowance for that month and need access to further funds, we require an account release approval from your local immigration office.
This must be provided in writing and in the original. The released amount will then be made available in your account.
Questions about closing the account
My visa application was not approved. How can I get my money back?
If you wish to close your account and transfer the balance to another account, we require an account release approval from the German Embassy and written instructions to close the account and transfer the balance. Please send both documents in original to:
Deutsche Bank Privat und Geschaeftskunden AG
Service Center Hamburg / Auslaendische Studenten
Alter Wall 53
20457 Hamburg
Deutschland/Germany
What needs to be included in the account closure application?
In order to quickly and correctly process the closure of your account, we require the signed account closure application (in original) as well as the following details:
Name and address of the transfer recipient
Recipients account number/IBAN
Recipients sort code/BIC
Name and address of the recipients bank
Is a visa refusal or a cancellation of registration in Germany sufficient to release the blocked amount?
To close an account, we normally require instructions to lift the block, in original, from the German Embassy or your local immigration office. The visa refusal letter, a deregistration certificate, and/or certificate of departure are not sufficient.
The visa refusal is an administrative matter between the visa applicant (you) and the Federal Republic of Germany. The German Embassy represents the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany overseas. Within Germany, this is the responsibility of the local immigration office. The bank has a binding legal responsibility to confirm the observance of the block to the beneficiaries of the blocking notice. It is therefore imperative that we receive instructions from these beneficiaries before releasing the blocked amount. These instructions must be provided in original.
This is the only way to obtain explicit approval from the Foreign Office in Berlin.
My account has still not been closed. Why not?
It is possible that you did not send the complete set of required documents or did not include all necessary details about the bank account which should receive the payment. This would prevent us from closing the account and transferring the balance.
Please check whether you have sent us the complete set of documents required for us to close the account (account release approval and written instructions to close the account) in original.
Please send any missing documents or, if necessary, resend the complete set of documents (account release approval and written instructions to close the account) in original to:
Deutsche Bank Privat und Geschaeftskunden AG
